Spaceships by Kon Boogie @kon_boogie #hiphop

I saw a post about a new single from Kon Boogie on IG, so I decided to follow up with a blog post about a project of his called SPACESHIPS.  I've been focusing on taking architectural licensing exams (ARE's) so I haven't been blogging as much as I typically would, but this is a project that should be shared, so here it is.  I'm always in search of new music and SPACESHIPS is a solid project from top to bottom that you should definitely check out.

Kon Boogie tested his luck with a few group acts but decided to try the solo thing out, meaning he isn't a rookie in the New York hip hop scene and it shows in the music.  He boasts strong lyrical skills with light hearted skits tightly woven throughout this concept album.  The whole project has very high level of creative production with dope featured artists, including (but not limited to) Tash from the Alkoholiks.  The tone of Koncept's voice reminds me of Termanology at times, but his vibe is much more chill but please don't misunderstand my references to be comparisons.....just trying to paint the picture if you haven't listened yet.

The Music

The whole project shows a lot of versatility.  For example, I recently saw a post on IG of Kon Boogie with NYC style battle bars and that style of rapping is present on SPACESHIPS but then other tracks like  Lovin' Life couldn't be more of a west coast track.  The Finest follows immediately behind it with a rich boom bap track sound like it's off The Firm while Talk My Shit (below) is a mechanical futuristic banger that matches the motif of the project.  SPACESHIPS is an escapist project where Kon Boogie tells stories about leaving the planet and the experiences along the way.  Overall, there are dope vocal hooks, diverse beats and he even mixes in new trap tracks without dumbing down the lyrical content to appease hypebeast zombies and I appreciate that.  You'll find out on your next download though, so check it out!!  Listen to the full project by clicking here.

Legal Drug Money, Lost Boyz 1996

How much different could the music scene be 20 years ago?  The Lost Boyz exemplifies these differences in my eyes perfectly.

First off let me say that I know that the lyrical abilities of the mcs in The Lost Boyz aren't up on the same level as the best of the 90's.  Everyone that was up on hip hop during the 90's knows who The Lost Boyz are though.  Their mark on the hip hop scene is a definitely there when they reached their popular peak when they hit #6 on the Billboard charts for August 1996.  East Coast hip hop representing their neighborhood (south Queens), focused on their brotherhood, having fun and loving the music/culture they lived in.

Nodding your head is never enough when you listen to the Lost Boyz.  They rhyme on and offbeat so much that it makes you want to get up and dance.  Especially if you have the visuals in your head already.  They had their own style, told their own stories and they balanced it perfectly with their NYC style.  If you haven't hear of them, check out their videos and grab their project this summer.  It's perfect summer music with the summer tales of NYC.

Divine ScienZe, King I Divine & ScienZe, 2012

The pace that ScienZe is keeping with high quality projects is impressive. Just before the end of 2011, he dropped When Skies Fall and I was still absorbing that album when Divine ScienZe dropped on March 13, 2012.

The first single, Enjoy Tonight is a party anthem that is guaranteed to make am impression this summer. By the way, the video for Enjoy Tonight, by aaronisnotcool, was shot in the RA-NYC studio before the recent renovation.  The video was as fun as it looks and there's a lot more where that came from!  There's a RA-NYC collaboration on this project, so stay tuned!

It was my introduction to King I Divine's production and the chemistry between King I Divine's music and ScienZe's lyrics is obvious.  But, the album from front to back is filled with boom-bap tracks that make you wonder why this album is FREE!!!  Go get yours by clicking the link below.  Support high quality creative hip hop!
