You Need This Music by Nottz

You Need This Music, Nottz, 2010

Nottz is one of those artists that make you wonder why you haven't heard his name before. For those that have heard about him before, maybe you didn't know that he has an album out. He's a producer/rapper that has an impressive tacklist but is drastically underrated. You may know a track that he produced for Kanye West called Barry Bonds featuring Lil' Wayne?

He's a talented producer from Virginia that is finally getting the recognition that he deserves. He also recently released a collaboration album with Rah Digga (from the Flipmode Squad) called Classic.  On the collabo album, Rah Digga talks about how she had to make trip to Virginia to work with Nottz like it was a pilgrimage.  You Need This Music features lot of respected artists like Travis Barker, Snoop Dogg, Little Brother, Royce Da 5'9, Joell Ortiz, Black Milk, Kardinall Offishall, Dwele, Mayer Hawthorne and Bilal. There are a few featured vocalists, but they are new to me, so I can't act like I know who they are.

The concept of this album, You Need This Music isn't simply telling you to go buy it. The idea is that there has been a void in hip hop and for many people hip hop is their culture and they need this music to be part of their lives.  In a lot of ways, it's true.....especially for me.

It is difficult to nail down a singular style for Nottz Raw other than hip hop. Boom bap is more of a type of beat than a style though, so I can't really put him in that category. His track list is long enough and diverse enough to just call him an artist that can do it all.  I fully expect to hear a lot more music coming from Nottz in the near future.  So either keep an eye out for him or I will make sure to keep you updated on new releases from Nottz.

Artists Nottz has worked with: DV Alias Krist, Lord Have Mercy, 3rd Eye, Busta Rhymes, The Notorious B.I.G., Fat Joe, Rah Digga, Funkmaster Flex, M.O.P., Xzibit, Krumbsnatcha, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, 50 Cent, G-Unit, Kardinall Offishall, Black Moon, Craig G, Pitch Black, Cassidy, Ghostface Killah, Consequence, Skillz, Canibus, Royce Da 5'9", Little Brother, The game, Boot Camp Click, WC, Swizz Beatz, Kanye West, Dwele, AZ, MURS, J Dilla, Termanology, Bishop Lamont, Rapper Big Pooh, Ne-Yo, Drake, Asher Roth, Slaughterhouse, Finale, T.I., Skyzoo, KRS-One & Buckshot, Rakim, Mayer Hawthorne and Bilal.
