Antisa Graffiti and Graphic Design

How do you find out about artists?  Before the internet, I imagine it was a lot harder to discover graffiti artists in Chile.  As I make my way around Facebook and MySpace, I'm always looking for new/unique artists.  Antisa chose the perfect image to catch my eye for her thumbnail.  As you can see from the images above, Antisa has a really sick style of graffiti and she is also a graphic designer.  It is common for graffiti artists to be graphic designers as well, but not too many are doing 3d animation.  What first caught my eye about her work is the beautiful color combos and the style of letters in her mural pieces.  It made me want to see more of her work, so I reached out to her so I could get more information about her.

Antissa is 26 years old and she was born in Concepcion, southern Chile.  She finished studying graphic design in 2006 and in 2009, she finished her degree in 3d animation for film and tv.  Antissa started tagging started in Los Angeles, (southern Chile) around 1998-1999.  In 2000-2001, she made her first pieces, but she didn't know what she liked, so she was on hiatus until 2003 and she has been painting ever since while living in Flagstone, Los Angeles, Concepcion and she now resides in Santiago, Chile.  She had the opportunity to travel throughout Chile and Brazil exclusively for painting.   Her graffiti work is wildstyle letters and you tell that she means it when she says, "I love letters".  She told me that she feels comfortable in Brazil and that the people are nice and they give you space to create freely.  I wish the US would take some notes from Brazil because graffiti is both at the forefront of art in 2010 and it is completely outlawed in our country.

I asked Antisa what musicians that she likes or albums that she has been listening to lately.

I like a lot black music.  I listen Anita Tijoux,  Flying Lotus, Pete Rock, Strange Fruit Project, Bahamadia, Oh No,  Solo los Solo, Raheem Devaughn, Slum Village,  J Dilla, Fela Kuti, Erykah Badu,  Frank n Dank, kazi, MF Doom, Declaime, Mos Eef... and others.

She also works with a crew called the Turronas Crew.  Click here to see their MySpace page.  The group consists of Antisa (Chile), Gigi (Chile), Monkey (Mona Chile), Dninja (Brazil) and PSF (Germany).

When asked if there are any graf artists that have influenced her work, she said, " friends, Fisek, DVE Crew, Da Mental Vaporz, Seen, Tats Cru, Totem...."
