Preparing For Capture, Blockhead and Illogic , 6.5.2012
First of all, let me start off by saying that it's a damn shame that I've slept on Illogic until recently. I'm fans of a lot of his associates, but I'm just catching wind of his flow now. Preparing For Capture is a collabo album by Blockhead, who I follow and Illogic, a Ohio rapper that does a lot of work with Blueprint, Soul Position, Vast Aire, Rhymesayers and older Aesop Rock albums, among others. This album has confirmed my newly realized respect for this mc/artist and now I'll be searching back in time to catch other projects he's released or been on. His style reminds me of Pharoahe Monch, but he sticks to the rhythm more than Monch. The combination of Illogic's word play, beat play and the dark moody sounds of Blockhead make for an EP that you should pay attention to. This music is free if you can't afford it, but offers you the opportunity to pay because you appreciate the music. To me, that's enough reason to find a way to pay for creativity that makes life better.
If you're anything like me, I appreciate music that still allows itself to be what it needs to. The only thing that "sells" are club anthems that Danny Brown mock with "Radio Song", where the point of the song genuinely mocks itself to make a point. If you're anything like me, you may like music that you can play for different moods that fit your life at that point because life isn't always a party. Preparing For Capture is one of these albums that fly under the radar, but I believe have more substance and creativity than the re-run songs on the radio or video.
